This Harmony of the Gospel is something of a 'fifth gospel'. It has five distinctive features that no other account of Christ's life would have. It is two and a half times the word size of the largest gospel account, which is Luke's gospel. It records all 179 events the four gospels collectively report .(Individually the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John record 94, 79, 118, and 49 events in Christ's life respectively). An example of an event would be Jesus baptism etc.

It quotes only one of the possible four gospel accounts of each event in the life of Christ. Sometimes an event in Christ's life is reported by one, two, three, and sometimes four gospels. (However, only one account is chosen). It selects the account that has the most to say and has the most weighty words.

Extra unique source material from the other three gospels are included in parenthesis. (No detail is omitted.)

It presents the life of Christ in its correct chronological order (the synoptic gospels are not strictly recorded chronologically).

You can get the whole story of Christ's life in one account. This is ideal for new Christians who want to read the story of Christ's life in one reading and not four.. Event 170. The Burial. Matthew 27.

57When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
(Mark 15:42 and Luke 23:54 note it was the preparation day, the day before the Sabbath. Luke 23:50-51a notes Joseph was “a good man, and a just: (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;)” John 15:43 comments that Joseph was also “an honourable counseller, which also waited for the kingdom of God,”. John 19:38 notes that he was a secret disciple of Jesus for fear of the Jews.)
58He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
(Mark 15:43b-45 comments that he now “went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.”)
59And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
(John 19:39-42 remarks that Nicodemus, which came to Jesus by night, brought about a hundred pound weight mixture of myrrh and aloes to anoint the body of Jesus for burial. The Scriptures in John 19:40 and Mark 15:46-47 say, together the men wound the body in linen cloth as the manner of the Jews is to bury. Nearby the place where he was crucified, there was a garden, it was there, in a grave in which never man was yet laid, that they laid Jesus.” Mark 15:46 adds the sepulcher was hewn out of a rock, and that they rolled a stone over the door of the sepulchre.)
61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
(Luke 23:54-56 comments the Sabbath drew on. That the women who followed Jesus, beheld how the body was laid, “And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.”)

Event 171. The Guard at the Tomb. Matthew 27.

62Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
63Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
