At the age of seven, nothing could have prepared me for the horrors that changed my life from a normal, happy child to a deformed beggar boy of the streets. Can I believe the American when he told me; 'Michael, there is one thing that can change all of this, when people read your story they will become outraged and speak out. The outcry from enough voices will force the political leaders to put an end to this horrendous practice. It's your story Michael that will make a change in the world.' This is my story, MY NAME is MICHAEL.

Atrocities are common throughout the world, but nowhere are they more deplorable as when they are thrust upon the children.

In parts of North Korea poverty is so rampant that children are abducted and used for food to avoid starvation.

In many Arab countries children are trained as suicide bombers and blow themselves up amid a crowd of innocent people.

In America over forty million children have been slaughtered through a medical procedure called abortion.

In many countries children are forced into slave labor and forced to work twelve to fourteen hours a day while living in squalor and barely getting enough food to survive.

Children forced to beg on the streets is not exclusive to China, but this is where my story takes place. Witnessing many children with deformed bodies begging throughout the city streets, I, out of curiosity, began to question some of the local people. Most refused to talk about it while a few, despite fear for their own safety, related some horrific stories to me, which prompted me to write “My Name Is Michael.”

While this story may border on truth, it is fiction, and should be taken as such.

About P. J. Thomas

During a two year stay in China I got to know many Chinese people and learn much about their culture. I was taken by their friendliness toward foreigners, and their easy-going, uncomplicated way of life. I saw a society with strong family ties, moral values and pride in country. A society that resembled the America I knew some fifty years ago; but like all societies, there is the evil element. Witnessing many young crippled children begging throughout the city streets, I began inquiring why this was so prevalent. Most people refused to discuss this, but the ones that did, related some horrific stories to me. From what I learned, I was inspired to write, MY NAME is MICHAEL. Myth or reality? Truth or fiction? You decide.
