When her sister Makoto commits suicide, time stopped for Sapphire Marena. Her unsound wanderings and inability to separate dream and reality left her in an almost half-life for two years. But when she finally is capable of returning to the real world, she is forced to inherit an unwanted legacy from her sister that forces her from the safe arms of her beloved Gaea to a cold existence of death and chaos.
Everything expected and nothing gained, she must let go of her everything in order for the people around to be saved. An unimaginable weight for an unwilling hero, Shadow of Chance follows Sapphire as she begins her spiraling path down to who she is, what she is, and all that her sister wished her to be.

As the cold fingers of death slowly stroked at her trembling form, she shuddered and a cold numbing sensation began to spread throughout her body. Frantic voices barely audible to her ears cried out for someone to call for help, to save her but it was too late. Heavy tears stung her dulling eyes as they slid down the sides of face to mix with the elixir of life that had slowly slipped between her grasp to form a small pool on the ground and in her hair. Heavy tears stung her dulling eyes, sliding down the side of her face to mix with the blood that seeped from her wound. It pooled openly from the wound, leaking onto the ground beneath her and mixing into her hair. As the voices slowly faded into nothingness, Sapphire slowly came to terms with the fact that medic wouldn’t get there. She’d never move from where she lay again and she knew it. She felt her heart skip a few beats in its quest for eternal rest and her body numbed. Sapphire saw the girl out the corners of her eyes blurred by tears as the small body lay still on the pavement. Oh god…
She can hear you, Mazae Mei-Ami. She remembers you.
What the? Everything began to distort and she felt a warm hand push her bangs away from her face. She saw a woman with dark hair leaning over her. Silver wings blocked Sapphire’s view of the sky and calming warm green eyes looked down on her. The beautiful voice shushed her.
Shh…it’ll be over in a moment. Pray and just let go.
This had to be a dream. Sapphire prayed to whatever higher being would listen while her mind continued to chant “I’m dreaming, I’m dreaming.”
It never is and it never will be. Just let go…
Sapphire’s arms relaxed and a glossy film glazed her eyes. Her scraping foot slid slowly down and ceased all movement. Eyes that held a deep emptiness gazed blankly at the sky, seeing no more; they were dull, a mere shadow of their original brilliance. The beating heart stopped and the blood halted its flow making her body ice cold. A final breath escaped her parted lips as a final tear fell on the cement. The sun fell below the horizon and night rested over Hana City. The choice had been made...now what?

About Autumn Twilight
Autumn Twilight is just your average everyday same psycho. Writing has been my passion since I was still in elementary making picture books. Though this story didn’t begin to take shape until my high school years, it had been a cute bobble-head muse sitting in my brain since middle school. I had always hoped that I could bring my imagination to others and what makes it better is that I write purely for the enjoyment of the reader. You like it then I love it. After all, what is the point of a story other than to leave a great impression that will be remembered by the reader.
